Below, I have shared some essential water safety rules to help parents keep their children safe this summer!
Always keep a close eye on children when they are in or near water.
Drowning can happen quickly and quietly, so active supervision without distractions is vital.
Swimming lessons help develop confidence in the water.
Knowing how to swim can be a lifesaving skill, so I always suggest enrolling kids as soon as they are old enough!
Children should always wear life jackets when in or around open water!
This means that by any body of water, even on the dock or boat, parents should encourage children to wear their life jackets to reduce the risk of drowning.
Also, always ensure the life jacket fits properly and is suitable for the child's weight and size. It's also important to regularly inspect the life jackets for any signs of wear or damage, and replace them as necessary.
Install barriers, such as fences with self-latching gates, around pools!
Additionally, if using an inflatable pool, ensure to empty the water after every use. Sadly, it only takes 1 inch of water to drown a little one.
By taking these precautions, parents can help prevent drowning accidents and ensure their children have a safe and enjoyable summer near the water.
